“Know your limit - play within it!” - that is this year’s slogan for Responsible Gambling Awareness Week. Today, 22nd June, kicks off the Responsible Gambling Awareness Week throughout Western Australia. Gambling providers, health services and government agencies are working together to get this years message to hit home. Participants in this year’s initiative include; the Gaming and Wagering Commission of Western Australia, the Burswood Entertainment Complex, Racing and Wagering Western Australia, Lotterywest and Centrecare.
Terry Waldron, the Minister for Sport and Recreation; Racing and Gaming; Minister Assisting the Minister for Health, talking about gambling and the problems faced by the gaming industry and gamblers, commented that:
“While gambling is a part of australia’s social fabric, unfortunately, it can become a major problem for a small section of the community. In Westen Australia the Government’s strong stance against poker machines in pubs and clubs means that we have by far the lowest level of problem gambling in the nation. However, it is imperative that initiatives such as Responsible Gambling Awareness Week are taken, and stakeholders are given the opportunity to highlight their contribution to help prevent problem gambling”.
