Paypal the global ecommerce business that specialises in the transfer of money over the internet have announced that they are at last going to allow customers to make deposits at online casinos. This decision has come as a surprise to many within the online gaming industry and reverses a decision taken 2 years ago to withdraw Paypal services from the online casino market place.
The move by Paypal reflects legislative and political changes currently taking place within the global igaming market. The recent regulation of the French online gambling market and the establishment of North America’s first state backed online casino would have played heavily in the minds of the decision makers on the Paypal Board.
However, the move by Paypal back into the online pokies market has been a gentle one. Initial reports indicate that Paypal are only prepared to work with legitimate well known brands such as the Gibraltar based 32 Red and Ladbrokes.
Established in 2000, Paypal has become a market leader in its field, and even state on their Australian facing site that they are “Australia’s favourite way to pay online“. They were acquired by Ebay in October 2002 and operate in over 190 market globally from their base in San Jose, California.
