Paypal coming around to online gambling

32Red, the Gibraltar based online casino, have just been added to PayPal’s list of accepted / approved operators for whom they will accept online payments.

When PayPal was bought out by ebay, back in 2002, the company tightened its internal legislation on the acceptance of online gaming payments.  This was because, after the terrorist attacks of September 11th on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre, the US brought in a host of new laws to combat money laundering, and online gaming got caught up in the middle, as a possible easy method of money laundering.  However, the subsequent slackening of these laws means that PayPal has now begun dealing with online gambling companies once again.  Before signing off on 32Red, they already had Party Gaming and 888 on their books.

According to the Operations Director Pat Harrison at 32Red, getting approved by PayPal was “of the most onerous pieces of due diligence that our business has ever been through.”
