Microgaming, the leading supplier of online gaming software, have announced that they are to release a slot version of the Oscar winning movie ‘Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’.
The release comes almost a year after an agreement was reached with Warner Bros, which licensed Microgaming to produce online slots games based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Early reports on the new ‘Lord of the Rings’ slot, indicate that it will possess what Microgaming are calling ‘Cinematic Spins’ technology, which will enable movie clips to be played in the background whilst the reels are spinning, as well as during win features.
Whilst details of the licensing agreement between Warner Bros and Microgaming are thin on the ground, the move by Microgaming into producing movie slots is by no means a new one within an increasingly dynamic sector. Recent slot releases include Spiderman, X-Men and Top Gun.
Given the huge cost outlay to Microgaming for the license, Roger Raatgever, Microgamings CEO was keen to express that this was too good an opportunity for the company turn down. He goes onto comment…
“Microgaming has always been ahead of the curve with innovative offerings, but this game really does push the boundaries.”
Jamie Spence, a leading analyst in the online gaming sector offers some hope for Raatgever and his team. He comments..
“The move to secure the license rights for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was great business by Microgaming, particulary give the competition it was facing from both Playtech and PartyGaming. However, the license alone doesn’t guarantee success and Microgaming will have to produce a highly innovative game to match the high expectations of players.”
